Thomas J. Cutler
U.S.N. (ret)
| Thomas J. Cutler enlisted in the Navy in early 1965 at the age of seventeen and has served the Navy in various capacities ever since. After a career that included service in patrol craft, destroyers, and aircraft carriers, as well as a combat tour in Vietnam, he retired in 1990 as a Lieutenant Commander. He is the founder and former director of the Walbrook Maritime Academy in Baltimore, Maryland, and spent nine years at the U.S. Naval Academy teaching seamanship navigation, tactics, leadership, and history. He has been a professor of strategy and policy with the Naval War College since 1991. His published works include Brown Water, Black Berets: Coastal and Riverine Warfare in Vietnam and The Battle of Leyte Gulf: 23-26 October 1944. He was the recipient of the Navy League's prestigious Alfred Thayer Mahan Award in 1988-89. He currently is senior acquisitions editor for the Naval Institute Press. |
